| Abstract | The coastal area of São Paulo presents a wealth of natural resources, diversity of species and habitat types, supporting also different economic activities. In the present study, we developed a sustainability analysis of all 36 municipalities along the coast of Sao Paulo State. We proposed the use of environmental indicators in a way they could simplify the representation of complex phenomena recognizing the forces acting on the ecosystem and providing communication of important information for management plans, in a geographic information system framework. The 47 thematic socio-environmental parameters used were obtained from public institutions such as IBGE, EMBRAPA, Forestry Institute, City Halls, IPEA, SEAP, SMA and SABESP. These thematic parameters were aggregated to obtain sectorial indicators in six dimensions - spatial, cultural, economic, ecological, social and political. The index of anthropogenic impact (IGIA) was calculated for each of the 36 coastal municipalities of the state of São Paulo, and used as metrics for comparison. The results are presented as graphs, tables and georeferenced maps. The database can be dynamically updated using the GIS tool, as new parameter values are obtained with time. Therefore, the results demonstrate the sectors considered at risk and those with regional development opportunities. Considering all municipalities analyzed, Caraguatatuba and Iporanga showed the highest and lowest overall anthropogenic impact, respectively. |
